Chickens are suffering in cramped, filthy conditions and the British supermarkets are hiding it from the public.
Over 300 companies across the UK and Europe have pledged to stop selling Frankenchicken. It's time for the British retail giants to follow.

Frankenchickens are doomed to live short lives of unnecessary pain and suffering. It is unacceptable for British supermarkets to continue selling them.
A significant proportion of broiler chickens reared in intensive conditions routinely suffer from poor leg health, painful lameness, cardiovascular disease and premature death. These issues are primarily attributed to the use of fast growing strains – known as Frankenchickens – overcrowded conditions and other management factors. After years of genetic selection, Frankenchickens suffer from a range of health and welfare issues, all of which would be improved by using slower growing strains. The current maximum permitted stocking density of 38 kilograms of chickens per square metre of floor translates to around the space of an A4-sized piece of paper per chicken during the week prior to slaughter. Such conditions restrict their natural behaviours and the high densities of birds often result in poor litter and air quality. These further lead to painful conditions such as foot pad burns and breast blisters, which are extremely common. Hundreds of companies globally have signed the Better Chicken Commitment and pledged to address these major welfare issues. I call on British retailers to do the same use their influential positions as market leaders. You could make a huge difference to the lives of hundreds of millions of sentient beings.
I demand that you take the action described above to stop the needless suffering of the chickens you sell in your stores.
